Euroopan kaasun tankkausasemista löytyy kiinnostavaa tietoa karttamuodossa GasHighWay-hankkeen sivustolta www.gashighway.net (etusivu, oikea alalaita). Tiedot löytyy GasHighWay:hin osallistuvista maista, joita ovat Suomi, Ruotsi, Viro, Latvia, Liettua, Puola, Saksa, Tsekki, Itävalta ja Italia. Karttasovelluksen näkymä tarkentuu zuumaamalla lähemmäs. Tankkausasemaverkoston kehittymistä voi tarkastella tankkausasemien värikoodien mukaan... ennen 2009 auenneet asemat näkyy punaisella, 2009 jälkeen taas sinisellä. Sivulta löytyy myös navigaattorille ladattava tiedosto kaasun tankkausasemista.

Tankkausasemien lisäksi on tehty google maps -kartta myös liikennebiokaasun jalostusyksiköistä Euroopassa (biogas upgrading units). Biokaasua syntyy tuhansilla biokaasulaitoksilla, jätevedenpuhdistamoilla ja kaatopaikoilla ympäri Eurooppaa. Kun kaasu halutaan hyödyntää liikennekäytössä, se puhdistetaan laadultaan maakaasun veroiseksi liikennekaasuksi kaasun puhdistusyksikössä. Näiden jalostusyksiköiden määrä on Euroopassa kasvussa... ja tilanne siis nähtävissä karttapohjalla. Suomessa on toistaiseksi yksi biokaasun puhdistuslaitos Keski-Suomessa Kalmarin tankkausaseman yhteydessä. Toinen on rakenteilla Kouvolan biokaasulaitoksen yhteyteen, ja alkaa loppuvuonna jalostamaan liikennebiokaasua maakaasuverkkoon ja kaasun tankkausasemille.

Käväsin itse keväällä Euroopassa maakaasuautolla ja totesin, että se on edelleen aika seikkailu tuntemattomilla alueilla ja bensatankki kannattaa tankata aina kun mahdollista :) Meillä oli käytössä iso joukko navigaattoriin löytyviä kaasuasemakarttoja, cngprices.com -sivusto ja silti kaasun saaminen oli aika työn takana. Suurin ongelma on se, että maakaasuautoilu nähdään ilmeisesti lokaalina ilmiönä ja usein kaasuasemilla käy vain aseman oma tankkauskortti - käteinen, pankki- tai luottokortit eivät toimi. Vain suurimmilla ketjuilla löytyi asemilta myös avoimia automaatteja. Lisäksi suuri osa asemista oli kaukana pääväylien varrelta. Saksasta kun siirtyi länteen päin, asemat katosivat lähes kokonaan. Suurimmassa osassa paikoista löytyi enää nestekaasua.
